François, owner of Platre Deco, has been awarded an excellence award from the NSW Master Builders Association for the category ‘Restoration’ for his work on the grand Georgian Gentlemen’s Townhouse c1841-43 in Dawes Point.

Today, the Emmett Residence is steeped in history and graced with a wealth of refined original features and rare Greek Revival influences.

Judge’s Comments:

“This is a unique restoration, the quality of workmanship was excellent with some amazing refit designs. The builder showed exceptional skills in restoring this home back to its original glory. The new works were installed, taking into account modern services without compromise to the integrity and age of the building design. An excellent example of great craftsmanship.”

Today, for the first time in its 175-year history, the Emmett Residence is a home for its owners, their family life and collections, and a unique and celebrated ‘TARDIS’.

The Sydney Living Museum has organised a Focus Tour of this rare Dawes Point residence. The owner will be discussing the approach to its bespoke restoration, in particular the philosophy behind his one-of-a-kind bathrooms and the character heritage sandstone facade.

Conservation expert François Crespel will also discuss significant features of the house that he worked on, including the 2018 TARDIS style link between the main house and the original servants’ work and sleeping quarters. For more information click here
